From the President's Desk

Dear Valued Members,

Greetings! As we recently observed International Women’s Day, it’s imperative to highlight the invaluable contributions of our female leaders in the project management field. Their dedication, expertise, and innovative approaches have significantly influenced and enriched our profession. We recognize and celebrate their achievements, knowing that diversity and inclusion are essential for driving success and fostering creativity in project management. Anthony.png

Regrettably, on February 19th, 2024, we bid farewell to James R. Snyder, the last surviving co-founder of the PMI. Jim served as an inspirational leader, leaving a lasting mark on the project management community. His life exemplified the significance of networking among project management professionals in nurturing this esteemed community. Let us uphold his vision and strengthen our community together. Yours sincerely,

Anthony Amalraj, MBA, PgMP®

PMIGL President

PM Musings

PMI = Connection, Community, and Change!ConnectionCommunity.JPGby April Callis Birchmeier CSP, PMP, CCMP™

Do you know that feeling after you’ve had a wonderful moment?

Maybe it’s an inspiring conversation with someone you enjoy, or sharing a fantastic meal with someone and having  the perfect amount of good food and connection?  It’s a feeling of fullness, contentment, and a deep sense of satisfaction.

That’s how I feel.

You see, the Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP) Change San Diego conference, held last week, has reminded me of the power of connection and community. Granted, we were in-person and had the advantage of being able to hug, make eye contact and talk (without someone saying, “you’re on mute”) and the ability to see professional colleagues, many of whom are now dear friends, filled me with joy.

Scam of the Month
TAX ATTACK!IRSscam.JPG

Millions of people around the world are paying their taxes this time of year, and cybercriminals are hoping to get paid, too. In this month’s scam, they’re taking advantage of tax season by trying to trick you into opening an email and downloading a malicious PDF attachment. The email they send looks like a government form and includes a link to download the PDF attachment. The scammers even include helpful instructions for pasting the web page URL into your browser in case the link isn’t working.

Clicking the link will redirect you to a fake webpage and initiate a file download. Malware is installed on your computer once the file downloads. Remember, cybercriminals don’t only want your money—they also want your data! And they can use this malware to steal your user credentials and other personal data.

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a tax scam:

    • If you receive an email regarding tax information, ensure you inspect the contents of the email to verify its authenticity. This includes verifying the sender and the contents of the email, such as attachments or links. If you're not 100% certain, don’t click anything.
    • If the email is unsolicited and is requesting you to click or download something within the email, report it as spam or phishing in your email client.
    • Follow the correct procedures for obtaining any tax documents for your employer or organization. If you're unsure of this process, contact your HR representative to help guide you through the correct process.
